RFID and Koha Integration at Chandigarh University

The library at Chandigarh University, Lucknow Campus, has successfully introduced Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology and integrated it with the Koha Integrated Library System (ILS) to make library operations faster, more accurate, and more user-friendly.

With this setup, key library tasks such as book issue and return, inventory checking, and security have become almost fully automated. Every book and resource has been fitted with an RFID tag that carries its details, directly linked with the Koha system.

The integration allows both systems to communicate smoothly, keeping all records updated in real time. Self-check kiosks and RFID-enabled security gates have made the circulation process quick and hassle-free, reducing staff workload and waiting time for students.

This upgrade is a big step towards creating a smart, modern library. By combining Koha’s open-source features with RFID’s automation power, the library has improved efficiency, reduced manual errors, and enhanced the overall experience for its users — setting a strong example of how technology can transform academic libraries.
